Remains of A Life Lost:
Lives of Young College Students Cut Short by Violence

It’s a real fact that women and girls are at a higher risk of experiencing violence and abuse in our society. Many people would ” Why so much consider for just women’s safety?” everyone can be a potential victim of violence. Maybe, but 9 times out of the 10, the victims are usually women. And many are victims of rape or murder and have also been college students.

One of newest and more tragic cases is of Annie Le, an 24-year old Yale graduate student who was found dead in her office building. As of recent, Raymond Clark was later charged with murdering Annie Le. Investigators say Le's death was a case of workplace violence. The brawny Clark most likely hit Le, strangled her and stashed her body behind a basement wall where they both worked.
The stories of these young women are still here and they’re not leaving, from Annie Le to Jeanne Ann Clery, a 19-year-old University freshman who was raped and murdered in her own dorm room on April 5, 1986. Colleges need to pay more attention to the happening inside their campuses. Annie Le was in a 3 level restricted lab with maximum security and was killed by her own co-worker.

Even SCAD has had cases of rape occur on its own campus, In Oct 28, 2007, 3 men were arrested for the kidnap and raped of a female SCAD student. They forced the 21-year-old victim at gunpoint into her car, robbed her and raped her.

She later escaped and lived to tell her story, many others weren’t.

So Ladies, I speak to you as a fellow college student and as a fellow female, you must watch out for yourself and be aware of your surroundings, even your trustworthy friend may not be what they seem. Remember, not only could your life be in danger, but also your families and friends will be left behind to pick up the broken pieces. If not for yourself, for you loved ones,
